Apparently, the roll-out of Android 2.3 Gingerbread for Samsung Galaxy S devices out there has started in more markets around the world, and wireless carriers too are beginning to push it out to their users.

Following info on the availability of this update for users in the Nordic countries, reports on its release at Vodafone UK started to emerge as well.

The wireless carrier announced via its community forums that the Android 2.3 software update is being delivered to users at the moment, and that they should fire up the Samsung Kies application to download and install it on their phones.

“A new maintenance release for the Samsung Galaxy S is now available for Vodafone customers. This is an Android platform update to 2.3 Gingerbread which introduces a number of fixes and improvements,” the wireless carrier announced.

Some of the main enhancements included in the new Android 2.3 Gingerbread update would be: - Ul Enhancements (simpler and slicker) - New Android Keyboard, with easy copy/paste feature - Improved Power Management - Multiple Camera Management (front and back) - The ability to switch the device to GSM (2G) only mode has been restored in this update.

In order to receive the new software update, users would have to connect their Galaxy S devices via USB to a desktop computer running under Windows, and then launch the Samsung KIES application.

The software should inform users on the availability of the software update, and all they would have to do from now on would be to follow the on screen instructions.

“To check which version of the software you have on your handset you need to dial *#1234#. The new software version will show as i9000BUJV4,” the wireless carrier announced.

As previously stated, Samsung Galaxy S is the second smartphone on the market to receive the Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS upgrade, after Nexus One (we're not counting rooted phones running CyanogenMod 7 here).

Although Samsung delayed the release of Android 2.2 Froyo for Galaxy S a lot last year, it managed to keep its word and deliver the new Gingerbread update in due time.
