Fido is the second Canadian carrier to launch the Samsung Galaxy Q Android smartphone, after Rogers debuted the phone last week.

The phone is available for purchase for as low as $100 with a monthly plan and two-year Fido agreement.

Although Fido's price seems a bit higher than Rogers' deal, the latter is offering the phone for $49.99 but with three-year agreements.

Customers who wish to purchase Fido's Samsung Galaxy Q are required to sign up for a monthly plan and pay $275 outright, no contract involved. It is also available on pre-paid for the same price.

Unfortunately for Fido, Rogers is now offering the Galaxy Q device for a suggested retail price of $249.99 off-contract, which makes it the better choice for those who don't want to subscribe to a long-term contract.

Samsung Galaxy Q is a mid-budget Android smartphone, which was unveiled last month. Even though the phone is delivered with a slightly older Froyo platform, it still an interesting alternative for customers looking for an affordable device.

The handset bears a slider form factor and comes with a mid-size 3.2-inch HVGA capacitive touchscreen display with 16 million colors support and 320 x 480 pixels resolution.

The Galaxy Q measures 58.7 x 113.9 x 13.9mm and weighs only 135g (battery included). However, the strong point of the handset is the full slide-out QWERTY keyboard, allowing for a faster and more convenient text messaging experience.

Furthermore, the device sports a 3-megapixel photo snapper with 3x digital zoom and video recording capabilities.

The Galaxy Q packs only 100 MB of internal memory, but features a microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 16GB).

According to Samsung, the phone's battery should provide up to 13 days of standby time, up to 5 hours of talk time or up to 8 hours of music playback.
