Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless is expected to add to its offering in the near future a new handset powered by Google's Android operating system, namely the Samsung Function, which should prove the company's own flavor of Galaxy S II, rumor has it.

While no official confirmation on the existence of this device has emerged until now, Phandroid reports that its name made it to a speed test site, which suggests that it might not be too long before it would actually arrive on shelves.

In all fairness, this might end up proving to be fake, but there is also the possibility that Verizon is indeed gearing up for the launch.

Previous rumors on the matter suggested that all major wireless carriers in the United States might be receiving the Galaxy S II smartphone, and that Verizon could have it available for its customers under the name of Within.

A while ago, Verizon let slip that their own version of Galaxy S II was near, but the company retracted the sayings soon after.

Until now, no other confirmation on the availability of this mobile phone at the wireless carrier emerged, except for the new appearance of Function on the said test site.

There, you can see the smartphone performing better than any other device on the wireless carrier's lineup, which makes us believe it is rather fake.

However, the smartphone was launched on other markets with HSPA+ support, and there is the possibility that Samsung tweaked the CDMA connectivity capabilities too so as to make it faster than other devices.

For the time being, we'll take this with a grain of salt, but we'll also keep an eye out for additional details on the matter.

If true, Verizon customers will enjoy a fast and powerful handset on their wireless carrier's network, with a dual-core 1.2GHz application processor packed inside, a large 4.3-inch screen, 8MP camera on the back, 16GB of internal memory, GPS, microSD slot, and the like.
