Today, Samsung Galaxy Nexus, the first smartphone in the world to arrive on shelves with Google’s new Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich platform, went officially available on the Canadian market via wireless carriers Bell and Virgin.

The smartphone is now up for sale via Bell’s website with a price tag of $159.95 (around 120 Euros) with the signing of a three-year contract agreement. Virgin’s price has been set at $159.99 with a similar contract term.

Those who would like to purchase new mobile phone contract free will be able to do so upon getting $649.99 (about 485 Euros) out of their pockets.

One thing that is certain here is that Canadian users are luckier than those living in the United States, where the device still has to make an official appearance on the airwaves of Verizon Wireless.

Galaxy Nexus was made official back in October and has been pushed to the market in a series of countries around the world since mid-November.

It sports a vivid 4.65-inch HD Super AMOLED screen and Contour Display, complemented by a 1.2GHz dual-core application processor and a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with support for full HD video recording.

The software packed on this device is equally appealing, starting with the new Ice Cream Sandwich platform and going all the way to features and services like Google+ Hangouts, Search, Beam, Google Talk with video calling, Maps, and more.

Android 4.0, known as Ice Cream Sandwich, brings an entirely new look and feel to Android. It has widgets, notifications, efficient multitasking and more. Plus, share like never before with Android Beam. Hold Galaxy Nexus next to another enabled Android phone to share content,” Bell explains.

“With Google+ built right in, sharing the right things with the right people is easier and more manageable. Use Google+ Hangouts to join up to nine friends in a video chat. Google+ and Messenger allow you to bring groups of friends together in one conversation.”

The handset will also provide users with download speeds of up to 21 Mbps on the carrier’s HSPA+ network, as well as with WiFi and Bluetooth features, or Mobile Hotspot capability.
