Service said to be up now, the device only on December 13th

Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless has fired up its LTE network in the United States a year ago, but it seems that a series of issues that affect many of the company’s customers broke the party early.

Some of the carrier’s 4G LTE customers reported they were unable to access the service, and the issue was signaled in more than a single market. However, not all users were affected by this.

The wireless operator issued a statement several hours ago, saying that it was working on resolving the issues, while also adding that only the 4G service was affected. Users were still able to use the carrier’s 3G network.

“Verizon Wireless engineers have been working to resolve an issue with 4GLTE service that is affecting some customers’ 4G devices. 3G data and voice devices are unaffected. All customers’ voice calls and text messages continue to go through,” Verizon said to Droid-life.

“In the past 24 hours, some 4GLTE customers have reported their devices are operating on 3G data service where they would normally get 4G. Some have reported no issues, others that data access is either intermittent or unavailable. We are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.”

Apparently, the network is already up and running in some of the affected areas, and chances are that Verizon actually managed to restore it nationwide.

The bad news, however, is that the said issues might have determined the carrier to push back the release of Galaxy Nexus, at least this is what some of the latest news on the matter suggest.

Droid-life notes that various sources have been saying lately that the carrier has decided not to launch the Ice Cream Sandwich device on December 9th, as previous reports suggested.

No specific info on what determined the carrier to make this move emerged, but chances are that the aforementioned problems with the 4G LTE network were the cause of this.

The news site has an Equipment Guide screenshot to prove that something has changed. Leaked screenshots that emerged only yesterday showed the Galaxy Nexus set for a December 9th launch, but the device is now slapped with the “coming soon” tag.

Nothing has been officially confirmed on this, and one of our readers even said that a Verizon store accepted a Galaxy Nexus reservation, with plans to have it picked up on Friday. Hopefully, the device will arrive this week, and enthusiasts won’t have to wait even more for it.

The new rumored release date is December 13th for the Galaxy Nexus at Verizon, almost a month after it was made available in other markets around the world.
