THQ's Saints Row was announced in January to move from the console it was originally launched on, Microsoft's Xbox 360, to Sony's PS3. People said OK raising their shoulders. Recently however, THQ has announced to everyone's surprise the canceling of Saints Row PS3 and that Saints Row 2 is to appear on both PS3 and Xbox 360 simultaneously, as NextGeneration reports.

During a quarterly conference call, THQ's CFO Edward Zinser stated: "We've done great things for our brands by putting them in the right time frame. The most important thing for the Saints Row franchise is to have a simultaneous shipment into a larger installed base next year. That's what we're looking for with Saints Row 2."

The thing is, a larger installment base is welcome anytime, so it was only a matter of time before it happened. Had Saints Row not launched simultaneously on the PS3 and Xbox 360, the game would have been released for Microsoft's console too, eventually. Had it not been the case with Saints Row 2, it would have with the third installment for sure.

The game borrows a little from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas in terms of gameplay, with the developers referring to it as an emerging genre called "open world". It focuses on urban gang activity, with the main character attempting to strengthen his gang's standing within the world.
