The client business unit

Less than a month after Windows Vista has hit the shelves, Microsoft is shuffling the Windows division. This is typical for Microsoft, as the Redmond Company has reorganized its resources in the aftermath of major product releases. And with its main cash cow out the door, Microsoft has shaken up its Windows marketing unit. In this regard, the leadership at the top of the Windows client business unit has been reshuffled.

Sources close to Microsoft revealed that the reorganization is the work of Kevin Johnson. Johnson has taken the full role of president of the Platforms & Services Division of Microsoft following the retirement of Jim Allchin, the ex Co-President, Platform and Services Division, that has parted ways with Microsoft following the commercial availability of Windows Vista.

As part of the reorganization of the business side of the Windows unit, Kevin Johnson has announced the creation of a new business unit on February 27, 2007. Bill Veghte will lead the new Windows Business Group. As of yet, Veghte has filled the role of corporate vice president for Microsoft North America, leading Microsoft's sales, services and marketing efforts in the United States and Canada. Veghte has been with the Redmond Company for over 17-years.

Veghte is directly subordinated to Johnson, but his unit is on top of the Windows product marketing, Windows product management, Windows market expansion and Windows software protection and commerce. The Windows Business Group will not only take care of the corporate aspect of Windows Vista but will also deal with marketing, management, protection and commerce.
