Other titles considered

There have been whispers for some time that Sony is preparing to put out a 250 GB hard drive version of the PlayStation 3, initially packaged together with some of the big video game releases of the coming period. Some said that the new console version had been conceived by Sony as a multimedia center, complete with the ability to record TV shows in order to watch them later. Others speculated that the move was designed to counter the bundles that Microsoft was set to release in the coming months.

Now, consumer blog Endgadget is offering an image that is said to show the box of the Uncharted 2: Among Thieves bundle, which includes the 250 GB hard drive PS3. It looks pretty legitimate, with all the colors right, images taken from the game on the box and the logos of the developer and publisher. Still, it could all be put together by an experienced Photoshop user, so gamers needn't get their hopes up yet. Sony is stating that, “As you know, we do not discuss speculative rumors,” which seems to be the standard answer to everything these days.

There is speculation that the same deal that is being offered now for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves could be also extended to FIFA 10, Gran Turismo 5 and Assassin's Creed 2. If Sony really means to put this bundle on sale, then it needs to make a move on the announcement, as Uncharted 2 is set to come out on October 13. A great chance to do something official is at the Tokyo Games Show, which takes place from September 24 to 27.

Sony's move would also make sense in the wake of Microsoft's announcement that a bundle containing an Xbox 360 Elite console with a 250 GB hard drive and the upcoming Modern Warfare 2 would be offered. There's nothing stopping Microsoft from extending the bundle to other titles if it performs well initially.
