Driving simulators are appearing left and right these days, but none of them are as prestigious as Sony's Gran Turismo franchise, which is taken care of by Polyphony Digital. While the series has made history on the PlayStation 1 and 2, and will soon be headed to the PlayStation Portable, fans have only gotten a glimpse of it on the powerful PlayStation 3 thanks to Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.

But now the boss of Polyphony Digital, Kazunori Yamauchi, has talked about the often-delayed and long-time-in-development Gran Turismo 5. He revealed that, even though he wanted it to be released as soon as possible, the title was at a point where it just needed to be polished in order to ensure that it would deliver the benchmark Gran Turismo driving experience.

“I want to release it as fast as I can,” Yamauchi said. “But GT5 for us, when you talk about its status, it's at a point we can release it any time we want, but we can always keep working on it. It's very important for us to make sure everything is done perfectly and everything is done in detail.”

Gran Turismo 5 was announced at E3 back in 2006, when the team was rumored to have been working on it for quite a while. Now, fast forward to last week's E3, except for the trailer that was shown and a tease about the new game being compatible with the PSP version, things are still pretty quiet in terms of the driving simulator from Sony. Hopefully, we will see it in action in more than just a trailer in the near future.

With a few rumors and speculations about a holiday 2009 release, things are looking pretty good for GT5 fans who haven't had their thirst of the series satisfied by GT5 Prologue. Look forward to more details about the game as soon as they will arrive from either Sony or Polyphony Digital.
