The DEFY+ was launched on the market more than six months ago and the smartphone has yet to be made available in various regions of the world.

Today, the US-based handset maker introduced the Motorola DEFY+ in South Africa. The smartphone can be purchased beginning today from Nashua Mobile and 8ta for a suggested retail price of R2899 ($360 USD or 280 EUR).

Those unfamiliar with Motorola's DEFY series should know that the DEFY+ is a mid-range rugged Android smartphone that will probably be tagged as entry-level.

Powered by Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system integrated with MOTOBLUR UI with Live Widgets, the DEFY+ has no chance to receive an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade.

Hardware-wise, the smartphone is equipped with a 1 GHz single-core TI OMAP 3620 processor, which is complemented by a PowerVR SGX530 GPU, 512MB of RAM, 1GB of ROM, 2GB of internal memory and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB, 2GB memory card included).

As we already mentioned earlier, Motorola DEFY+ is a rugged phone and features a water resistant, dust proof body, that goes along with scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass coating.

Motorola DEFY+ has a pretty decent 3.7-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports 480 x 854 pixels resolution and 16 million colors. On the back, the device sports a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash and video recording.

Last but not least, the DEFY+ drains energy from a 1700 mAh Li-Polymer battery that should provide users with up to 384 hours of standby time or up to 7 hours of talk time.

Motorola DEFY+, our latest smartphone with life proof qualities, delivers the endurance and design strength to keep up with even the most demanding lifestyles, along with the social and entertainment capabilities that put friends and fun in easy reach. We designed Motorola DEFY+ with all the smartphone features you need for a demanding lifestyle,” said Dorothy Matemba, Motorola sub-Saharan Africa head of marketing.
