As American Idol runner-up sings record deal

As speculated for more than a week, the upcoming issue of Rolling Stone magazine, out on newsstands tomorrow, will actually be a “coming out” edition for American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert. Not only will it include a lengthy interview with the singer on his orientation, but the mag will also offer fans plenty of details as regards his plans for the future, now that he has a record deal, Us Weekly informs.

Adam does not expect anyone to be surprised by the news, since he never really made his orientation such a big secret – just because he would not plain out confirm it does not mean he denied it, he says in the Rolling Stone interview according to the aforementioned mag. Because of that, doing this coming out issue was more than just a confirmation: it was also him saying out loud that whatever revelations he wanted to make as regards his personal life, he would make them on his own terms.

“I don’t think it should be a surprise for anyone.” Lambert says, adding that he is proud of who he is. “I embrace it. It’s just another part of me. I’m trying to be a singer, not a civil rights leader. I was worried that [coming out] would be so sensationalized that it would overshadow what I was there to do, which was sing. I’m an entertainer, and who I am and what I do in my personal life is a separate thing. It shouldn’t matter. Except it does. It’s really confusing.” the singer further explains.

Nevertheless, while his coming out was clearly sensationalized and over-hyped, some would argue that it did not succeed in overshadowing his merits as a singer. Fans have often pointed out, both on dedicated forums and in other contexts, that his preferences mean nothing to them and that they influence in no way the anticipation they feel when they think about his first album. As it’s common knowledge, Lambert already enjoys the support of a very large fanbase that he won mostly with his wide array of vocal skills, but also with his flamboyant style and impressive performances on American Idol.

It’s these that have also landed Lambert his first contract deal, the singer is happy to announce. “I’m thrilled that we’ve come to a creative and collaborative partnership and look forward to developing a really exciting album. We are 100 percent on the same page and are all anxiously awaiting the start of the recordings. It’s going to be ridiculous! Get ready!” Adam says in a recently released statement on the contract with the RCA label.

Adam Lambert will start working on the new album this summer. In the meanwhile, fans will be able to see him as part of the 50-city Idol tour, which starts on July 5 in Portland, Oregon.
