Quite a bit of new content

If you liked Resistance 2, then you're going to love the news coming from Insomniac. The developer is saying that it plans to offer both a hefty patch for its shooter and some downloadable content. Both of these will be coming on March 26, which is quite close and begs the question “Why didn't it talk about all these sooner?”

The news came as part of an interview given to GameSpot at the Game Developers Conference. The patch is designed to fix several small problems with the game, while introducing a fresh game mode and a new difficulty setting.

“Meltdown” was a multiplayer game type present in the original Resistance videogame and proved so popular with gamers that it is being brought back for the sequel.

“Superhuman” is the new difficulty setting, which is set to provide a stiffer challenge for co operative play while also offering more experience as a reward. Also as part of the patch, players who engage in local co-op will be able to sign in by using their PlayStation Network profile so that they can save their accumulated experience.

The DLC, which is set to arrive on the same day as the patch, will be made up of the Aftermath Map Pack, priced at 5.99 dollars on the PlayStation Network. Insomniac is now willing to say how many new maps will be added, although this is quite a crucial aspect, but wishes to talk about how it will be designed so that small scale battles, often at close range, will be encouraged. The developer is also set to release some new skins for the characters in the game, which can be acquired for 0.99 dollars each.

At the moment, the fans of the Resistance universe can get Resistance: Retribution for the PlayStation Portable handheld if they need a fix until they can get their hands on the new maps for Resistance 2.
