So last year

Sony is surely making some moves designed to attract more customers to the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation Portable, its gaming platforms that have not been faring very well in sales in the recent few months. Still, some of the moves seem pretty limited in scope and, which is worse, not well thought through.

Various reports are saying that Target is getting ready to unleash a bundle for the PlayStation 3, which includes two games and sells for the price of 399 dollars. You're right, a standard 80 GB hard drive PlayStation 3 costs that much, so getting a few games to go along with the console sure sounds nice.

It would be even nicer if players were able to sample some of the biggest games released for the platform that are now very new, like Motorstorm and Resistance. Well, you can. The only catch is that, instead of bundling games like Motorstorm: Pacific Storm or Resistance 2, which were released in 2008 and are already over their peak sales period, Sony has thought it would be a good idea to include in the bundle the first Motorstorm and the first Resistance, which were released near the launch date of the PlayStation 3.

So, for 399 dollars you basically get a console and two games which are old enough to make you wonder why Sony is still bothering to produce them in physical form.

It might have been better for Sony to include the entire Resistance or Motorstorm series, which would indeed be seen as a good deal for 399 dollars. It would have been even nicer to offer some other incentive, like the chance to play PlayStation Network games for free for a short period or something else along those lines.

The very bad news is that Target will begin selling the bundle on March 29, which might indicate that we will see no cut price for the PlayStation 3 during March or even April.
