Horror genre fans have a pretty good reason to run to the closest local video games store right about now, as Capcom has just gone public announcing that Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles (the franchise's Wii exclusive installment) has just hit retailers. Imagine a world where the only thing you feel is fear, and the only instinct kicking in is that of self preservation, while your very life depends on how steady of a hand you have, since the whole experience is motion-sensitive. Think you're up to it?

Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, although a totally new iteration in the series, has been confirmed to feature familiar settings from the entire series. Even better, they've all been revamped especially for Wii play and implicitly for the Wii Remote control. The game reveals the story behind the fall of the Umbrella Corporation by exploring locations from Resident Evil 0, 1, 2 and 3 as well as new locations - Umbrella's stronghold.

The perspective is that of a first-person shooter, while the gameplay adds light-gun combat elements with interactive pathways, multiple weapons and new enemies. Also exclusive to the series is the two-player co-op mode and support for the Wii Zapper, so gamers can experience a more realistic gameplay time.

Here's the full list of general features just confirmed by the developer itself:

■ The overriding story of Wesker's return and the unveiling of new details about Umbrella link together the chapters as players revisit classic scenarios from previous Resident Evil games. ■ Return to classic locations such as the mansion from the original and RE 0, and elements of Raccoon City from RE 3 that lead players to a brand new chapter set in Russia. ■ Chris, Jill, Rebecca, Billy and Carlos are all available as playable characters. Other key characters from the Resident Evil series, including Albert Wesker make appearances during the course of the game. ■ Using the Wii Remote as a gun, players can experience breathtaking combat against a horde of zombies and various creatures in dynamic first-person perspective. ■ Support for Wii Zapper provides an even more satisfying, immersive experience. ■ Single player or two-player co-op ■ 480p and 16:9 Widescreen support ■ Switch between pistol, rifle, shotgun, machine gun, knife and grenades to defeat enemies ■ Replay the game to achieve higher rankings and access to upgraded weapons. Master the game and achieve an Excellent Ranking to obtain a secret item. ■ Destroy items to find hidden pick-ups providing key information that reveal vital details about Umbrella ■ Certain weapons can destroy environments and items. Shoot objects and watch them splinter, explode and disintegrate. Hidden items may sometimes be found after destroying objects.

Everything you've read above, you'll find within the game and then some, so there's practically no reason why you shouldn't add Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles to your personal collection of Wii titles. The Umbrella Chronicles is rated M for Mature by the ESRB. You'll be able to pick it up for $49.95. Check out the screens we've made available below and have fun playing the game!
