One of the new services that BlackBerry maker Research In motion announced for its Application Platform was the BlackBerry Advertising Service, aimed at offering app builders the possibility to integrate advertising in their BlackBerry smartphone software solutions easily.

Moreover, the new service is meant to offer advertisers, agencies and brands to work with a wide range of advertising networks, RIM announced.

“The BlackBerry Application Platform is providing a truly powerful foundation for our developer community,” said Alan Brenner, Senior Vice President, BlackBerry Platform at Research In Motion.

“The BlackBerry Advertising Service offers developers a quick and easy way to integrate advertising in their applications. The service reduces the commercial and technical complexity of enabling ads within an application and offers developers a new avenue of monetization.”

There are three key components included in the BlackBerry Advertising Service, namely the SDK, a mediation platform and the growing amount of advertising networks.

Through the SDK, developers would be able to support standardized MMA advertisements and HTML-5 Rich Media, along with ads that sport one-click in-application access to core BlackBerry resources, including Contacts, Calendar, or the BlackBerry App World.

When it comes to the mediation platform, RIM says that it is some sort of a single console for developers, enabling them to manage their ad allocations, as well as to access analytics, tracking and reporting features.

“The mediation platform and SDK is also open to many of the leading independent measurement and analytics solutions for both developers and advertisers,” the company announced.

At launch, the BlackBerry Advertising Service will support advertising networks like Amobee, Jumptap, Lat49, Millennial Media and Mojiva.

However, other networks should join the service in the near future, including Buzzcity, NavTeq, Placecast, Sympatico, Transpera, Where and xAD, along with the media advertising platform Medialets.

“With just a few lines of code, developers can include advertising in applications that are relevant to their users and tie into core BlackBerry smartphone features. […] Under the program, developers will receive an industry standard 60 percent of the advertising revenue,” the company announced.

“The MMA congratulates RIM on the BlackBerry Advertising Service and its efforts to ease marketer’s abilities to integrate mobile into their advertising strategies,” said Michael Becker, managing director of the Mobile Marketing Association for North America.

The new BlackBerry Advertising Service SDK is available now on the mobile phone maker's website here.
