Ubisoft has announced that R.U.S.E., the real time strategy game that is being developed by Eugen Systems, will be getting a free “preview” weekend through the digital distribution platform Steam. The video game will be playable starting with 2 PM East Standard Time on Friday, July 15 and all those who are interested in seeing what the title has to offer can begin preloading the game right now so that they have the entire package downloaded when that date arrives.

The official statement posted on Steam reads, “The Free Preview Weekend of R.U.S.E. will let you play a sizeable slice of the multiplayer, featuring new maps never played before. Play with 2 to 8 players, with any team or free-for-all combination, and with any of the 6 factions available in the final game. During the Free Weekend, you can also play battles against the medium or hard AI for the first time. Select which nation your opposing AI will play and check out the strengths of each faction. Good luck defeating the hard AI.”

R.U.S.E. is set during World War II and allows the player to experience the conflict from the perspective of any of the big powers. The game is, in part, a traditional real time strategy, where resources are gathered in order to produce units and overwhelm the enemy base. But the new Ubisoft title tries to mix things up a little by introducing special powers that can be used to misdirect the enemy, to hide units and to accelerate movement. We quite liked R.U.S.E. when we first saw it during an open beta.

At the moment R.U.S.E. is set to arrive at some point during September on the PC, the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. The Sony home console version of the strategy game will include support for the Move motion tracking system. R.U.S.E. has been already delayed once and the September date could also change.
