Motion controlled tactics

Ubisoft has announced that its upcoming strategy title R.U.S.E. will allow players to use the new PlayStation Move motion tracking system to control their actions when the game arrives on the PlayStation 3 home console in September. It seems that the developers at Eugen Systems were initially a bit skeptical about the new motion tracking systems that major console manufacturers are introducing but have found at least one of them to be a worthy addition to their title.

Talking at an event in London to Eurogamer, Mathieu Girard, who is the senior producer working on R.U.S.E., said, “I wasn't sure if it was just going to be a gadget but it turns out it's a very cool and natural controller. We're very excited about it.”

The executive even believes that those who play on the PS3 while using motion tracking to select units and issue orders will have a better experience than those who use a traditional controller. Of course, employing a mouse and keyboard setup on the PC is still the best and “most efficient” way of controlling a complex strategy title like R.U.S.E.

Despite the support offered for the PlayStation Move, there are currently no plans to adapt the new video game to the Kinect peripheral from Microsoft. The problem seems to be with the device's inability to actually detect those players who are sitting down. It does not make sense to play a strategy title standing up, so the controller is the only option when playing R.U.S.E. on the Xbox 360 home console.

R.U.S.E. offered players a beta stage earlier in the year and our impressions were positive. Unfortunately, Ubisoft decided to delay the title to the fall, which could affect its success. A new beta stage might be revealed towards the new launch date, although Eugen Systems has not yet unveiled any details.
