Ubisoft is estimating that first quarter sales for its video game line up have reached 160 million Euro in the first fiscal quarter of this year, which is quite a big increase over the same period of last year. The company is saying that the increase amounts to 93% and that the figures it has posted are better than the 145 million Euro that the market was expecting Ubisoft to talk about.

The main reason for the good performance is Splinter Cell: Conviction, the new Sam Fisher action game, which managed to sell about 1.9 million copies since the official launch. The game has been panned by some reviewers because it offered limited stealth options and put more of an emphasis on the gunfights but it seems that the public was satisfied with the experience delivered by Ubisoft.

The France based publisher is also saying that older titles like Avatar, based on the innovative 3D world created by James Cameron, and Assassin's Creed 2 continued to sell very well with casual game Just Dance also continuing to be a surprise hit.

Yves Guillemot, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Ubisoft, stated, “Our sales performance this quarter reflects the success of several titles and attests to the quality of our game catalog. It’s proof of Ubisoft’s ability to make its mark in an ever demanding video games sector.”

Ubisoft is saying that the second quarter of the fiscal year 2010-2011 will also see the launch of H.A.W.X. 2, a flight combat sim that is being prepared for the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 and the PC, and R.U.S.E., the strategy game developed by Eugen Systems for the same platforms. The publisher is saying that it expects to see sales of about 83 million Euro, the same as during last year. The company is also announcing that the new Driver game has been pushed to early 2011.
