Ubisoft, in the midst of the new high-definition remake fad, has decided to give the same treatment to one of its cult classics, Beyond Good & Evil, which still manages to command a loyal following years after it was originally launched.

As such, Beyond Good & Evil HD has been released onto the Xbox Live Marketplace, part of the Xbox Live House Party promotion that has been running from February to March on the online service of the Xbox 360.

The game delivers the same Beyond Good & Evil experience but with overhauled graphics running at 720p, high-resolution textures and remastered character models as well as a fine-tuned soundtrack.

Besides the technical upgrades, the game remains largely the same, with players controlling Jade, a young freelance photographer with a pretty good knowledge of kung fu, that must explore an island city called Hillys that is being attacked by evil aliens called the DomZ.

The game combines your regular fighting and puzzle solving with photography, which is Jade's key to getting money for upgrades and even solving certain puzzles.

The first impressions of Beyond Good & Evil HD aren't that great, however, as even if the game is now running in high definition, textures aren't as sharp as one might expect.

The transition to consoles has been relatively good, but Jade's movements, especially in combat are a bit awkward.

Photography can be a bit hit or miss, at least in these early stages, but perhaps things will get better as it progresses.

The story seems quite novel, however, and, seeing as how I haven't experienced Beyond Good & Evil when it first came out, I'm eager to see if it's actually worthy of all the praise that was given to it up until now.

Until we run our full review, check out the video below, showcasing the first battles in Beyond Good & Evil HD.
