Ubisoft has officially revealed an HD remake of one of its most popular titles from back in the day, but not for franchises like the rumored Prince of Persia or Splinter Cell, instead opting to present Beyond Good & Evil HD.

The original game was released back in 2003, and despite the fact that it was critically acclaimed by reviewers at that time, the title wasn't exactly a hit with the regular gamers, and lackluster sales followed.

A sequel was rumored for quite some time, with even a teaser trailer and screenshots being released, but Ubisoft revealed that it was put on permanent hold until enough excitement can be raised for the series.

Now, with the promise of Beyond Good & Evil HD, that can finally be achieved, as the high definition remake promises to take everything that made the original so popular, and completely upgrade.

The new title will run at a constant 1080p HD resolution, while its character models have been overhauled, the textures are more polished while the soundtrack is also being re-mastered.

The game will be launched as a downloadable title for the Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, and will pack complete achievement and trophy support.

The story will remain the same, with players controlling Jade, a 20 year old freelance photographer that is required to expose a massive conspiracy when her home, the island city of Hillys, is being attacked by an evil alien race called the DomZ.

The game combines puzzles and battles in dungeons like the ones seen in The Legend of Zelda from Nintendo, with vehicle sections between the game worlds and photography challenges to keep things interesting.

Ubisoft has declined to reveal any pricing or just when exactly in 2011 we will see Beyond Good & Evil HD, but it has released a batch of screenshots with the upgraded title.
