Well known in the enthusiast community for its high-performance coolers, Prolimatech has recently introduced a new version of the popular Megahalems CPU heatsink that comes with a slightly redesigned mounting mechanism.

Most of the changes brought to the Megahalems focused on bringing support for AMD processors to the cooler, but engineers have also increased the mounting pressure to 90 pounds.

This was achieved by developing a new set of screws which will be shipped together with the heatsink and that should improve the cooling performance of the Rev. C by 1 or 2 degrees Celsius.

Otherwise, the Rev. C of the Megahalems is identical with its older siblings, and it still relies on the same six U-shaped heatpipes to draw the heat away from the nickel-plated copper base and into a massive aluminum heatsink.

This can be fitted with a single 120mm or 140mm fan, while more pretentious users can even mount two such fans in a push-pull configuration.

Just as before, Prolimatech still recommends the use of fans with rotation speeds higher than 1600RPM, since these need to generate enough pressure to push the air through the tightly-packed fin stack.

Thanks to the new mounting system, the Prolimatech Megahalems Rev. C is now compatible with Intel's LGA 775, 1366, 1156, and 1155 sockets, as well as with AMD's AM2, AM2+, AM3, AM3+ and FM1 platforms.

Together with the heatsink and mounting mechanism, the Megahalems is also shipped with a high-grade thermal compound and fan clips for installing two 120mm or 140mm fans.

No information regarding pricing and availability has been made public by Prolimatech until now, but the current Rev. B is retailing for $69.99 and this is expected to cost a bit more as a result of its increased compatibility. (via Expreview)
