Yet another rumor

The PlayStation 3 is the most powerful and, according to a lot of analysts, the most feature-rich console currently on the market, beating its other two opponents, the Xbox 360 and Wii. But despite such facts, its high price tag makes it an easy prey for its rivals, which beat it almost every month in different territories, due to their much lower prices.

That is why a lot of analysts, developers and game experts have called for a PlayStation 3 price cut for quite some time. Despite the fact that various Sony executives stated that such a thing was preposterous and that it would arrive when it was needed, these rumors and speculations still haven't died down and are stronger than ever, as the Game Developers Conference, where Sony will be making a big announcement, will soon start.

Ahead of the conference that will take place in San Francisco, industry website Computer and Video Games has reported that a major UK game retailer informed it that a price cut for both the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation Portable was “definitely coming soon,” but couldn't confirm exactly the date of said discount nor its value.

“It's been on the cards for a while,” said the store representative, “but manufacturers are not in the habit of giving exact dates so as not to effect sales.” Other game store chains like GameStation have declined to comment on the statement, only saying, “Price drops are always welcome, but can't I give you any specifics.”

With the recent Resistance: Fall of Man and MotorStorm bundle being announced for after the GDC at the standard retail price of the PlayStation 3, it's safe to say that a price won't arrive extremely soon, but who knows what the future holds for people who still haven't decided to buy the expensive console.
