QUE eReader is one of those devices that had a tumultuous history behind it, announced and then delayed several times only to be canceled, but the company behind it, Plastic Logic, is far from being dead, just announcing they where to open a second manufacturing facility based in Russia.

If you wonder why Russia of all places, then you must know that the funding came from The Russian Corporation of Nanotechnologies (RUSNANO), this new plant becoming the second manufacture facility available to the company alongside their existing plant in Germany.

According to a company representative, this facility will produce new eReader devices that are currently under development.

Unfortunately, no informations on these devices are available right now, but taking a quick look at the canceled QUE proReader can provide us with some clues on what we should expect from Plastic Logic as the QUE featured a 10.7 inches e-Ink monochrome display, up to 8GB of internal storage, a thin design as well as WiFi and 3G connectivity.

“As a global company, we evaluated multiple countries for our expansion efforts and ultimately Russia offered the best strategic partnership opportunity,” said Plastic Logic’s CFO Rik Thorbecke.

“Russia provides access to an enormous talent pool of scientists and engineers, and proximity to our European centers in Cambridge and Dresden.

We have been very impressed with the caliber of the RUSNANO organization and, most importantly, its commitment to undertake the significant investment required to build a world-class volume production center capable of producing hundreds of thousands of units a month,” concluded the company's rep.

End of it all, I must say this latest announcement comes as really great news for all the users are interested in eReaders, although it's pretty tough to get excited when we take into consideration Plastic Logic's track record.
