While catching up with Amazon's Kindle eBook reader is quite a tough task for any company involved in the portable eBook reader's market that's not stopping various other manufacturers from trying, the latest to unveil such a product being Pandigital, who's upgraded its Novel series of eReaders featuring the integrated Barnes & Noble eBookstore with the Personal eReader model. What makes the new eReader from Pandigital different from its predecessors is the fact that it packs a 6-inch ePaper display that provides a crisp 600x800 resolution, as well as a touch-screen interface made by Sipex/AUO especially for Pandigital.

Plus, the company also claims that the ePaper display used on the Pandigital Novel is non-reflective, so the device is easy to read in bright light and sunlight.

Weighing 9.1 ounces, the eReader is very portable (measures 4.88 x 6.75 x 0.38 inches), while its built-in rechargeable Li-Ion battery provides a long battery life of up to 6,000 page turns.

Other convenient features that make reading easier and more enjoyable include adjustable font size, a built-in dictionary, word/character search, highlighting, and creation of multiple bookmarks.

This new eReader has 2GB of internal memory, but also a built-in memory card reader that accepts up to 32GB memory cards for access to a virtually unlimited number of eBooks (PDF & EPUB formats supported) and other files.

Other important features worth mentioning about the new eBook reader from Pandigital include the built-in Wi-Fi and web browser, the built-in speaker, the stereo-mini headphone jack for private enjoyment of music and also the possibility of viewing photos on the 16-level grayscale display.

A virtual keyboard for making notes, emails, and other entries has also been implemented, while the built-in orientation sensor automatically adjusts between portrait and landscape mode when the device is tilted.

"We're extending our Pandigital Novel eReader line to include an ePaper model that will encourage even more readers to embrace the ease, comfort and enjoyment of electronic book readers," said John Clough, President of Pandigital.

"Our new Pandigital Novel 6-inch eReader is perfect for the many readers who love to catch up on their books outdoors, on vacation or just when they have a moment to relax and unwind," Mr. Clough added.

The new Pandigital Novel Personal eReader will be available this month at national retailers and has a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $199.99.
