The HTC ROME with a new name

A new handset from the Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation has just surfaced into the wild in a series of photos, namely the HTC Touch.B, which seems to be none other than the device previously known as the HTC ROME. There are no available details at the moment on what the handset is all about, yet it seems that it might actually run under Google's Android operating system when launched on the market.

The photos with ROME/Touch.B have been published by the guys over at MobiFrance, and show a phone that resembles a lot with the already available HTC Touch2 device, which runs under Microsoft's Window Mobile 6.5 platform. However, as Engadget points out, the ROME/Touch.B does not sport the keys that the Windows Mobile OS needs for a device to have, thus the conclusion that it might actually arrive on shelves with Android on board.

The phone’s resemblance with the HTC Touch2 is also said to suggest that we might see it launched as a redesigned version of one of the company's already available handsets. Moreover, it seems that it comes around with the HTC proprietary ExtUSB connectivity port, even if the handset vendor was expected to deliver it with a microUSB connector, something that, according to slashgear, also shows the presence of an older device under the hood.

As stated above, no exact details are available on the phone, except for what one can make up by looking at the newly published images with it. The inclusion of Android with this phone is one possibility, yet HTC has been already reported to plan launching phones that won't run under smartphone operating systems, and we might be looking at one of them right now. However, until more consistent specifications become available, you might want to check with the photos bellow to make an idea of the handset, or head over to MobiFrance for the entire gallery.
