Could be an entry-level device

Taiwan-based mobile phone maker HTC Corporation seems determined to make great steps into the Android phone market, probably the same as it already did in the Windows Mobile segment. Thus the company is reportedly preparing the launch of yet another Android-based device, only that this time it would be an entry-level mobile phone, and not a high-end one, as the recently released HTC Hero is.

The newly spotted handset, HTC Click, emerged into the wild a few days ago, along with other mobile phones from the company, namely the HTC Leo, HTC Mega and HTC Rome, three new supposedly Windows Mobile-based devices. The phone doesn't seem to be such an exciting one, compared to the likes of the HTC Hero, Samsung Galaxy or the newly unveiled Sony Ericsson Xperia X3 (Rachael), but it is targeted at a certain market segment, which means that HTC is looking into the mainstream area too.

When it comes to the specs of the new device, nothing much can be said, except maybe for a possible 2.8-inch touchscreen display, according to Gizmodo. In addition, the French site pointgphone, the one that published the photos with the Click in the first place, says that a 3.5mm audio jack and a photo snapper have been included in the package as well. At the same time, we should also mention that the trackball present with previous HTC Android phones is missing, being replaced by a multi-directional pad.

The Android has been reported before to be only in the first phase of its success, and its entrance in the lower levels of the market will guarantee that more and more people will choose it over other smartphone platforms. The HTC Click has great chances to feature a price tag much lower than the currently available Android offerings, which means that the Platform will have to compete in an area where feature phones rule. Even so, chances are great that it will succeed, so stay tuned to learn more details on the new HTC Click.
