Sunnyvale-based mobile phone maker Palm has announced today that its recently launched high-end mobile phone Palm Pre will come to the market on the old continent. According to the company, the device will be introduced initially in the UK, Ireland and Germany, exclusively via O2, as well as in Spain, via Movistar, and that it should land in time for the holiday season. As many of you might already know, the new handset comes with the company's latest platform, the webOS, which has been designed so as to bring information from various places into an integrated view on the phone.

“Europe continues to be an important region for Palm, and we’re proud to work with O2 and Movistar to spread the excitement Palm Pre has already ignited in North America,” said Jon Rubinstein, Palm chairman and chief executive officer. “Since we showed Palm Pre at Mobile World Congress in February, there’s been a great deal of anticipation for an announcement about European availability, and that day is here.”

The Palm Pre smartphone was launched for the first time about a month ago in the US exclusively via wireless carrier Sprint, and comes with an innovative interface and with a hardware design meant to prove it to be one of the most integrated devices available on the market. The phone comes with a 3.1-inch touchscreen display that boasts a 320 x 480 pixel resolution, while also featuring a sliding QWERTY keyboard, and it has been designed so as to fit perfectly into the palm of the user's hand.

The handset can be used both closed and slid, offering a variety of functionalities, including phone calls, web browsing, music, photos and videos viewing, or email and messaging capabilities. Moreover, the Palm Pre also comes with integrated GPS, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR with A2DP connectivity, 8GB of internal memory, microUSB connector, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g connectivity, proximity and light sensors, as well as a removable, rechargeable battery.

Unfortunately, no exact details on the release date of the Palm Pre in the aforementioned markets have been unveiled. There are no pieces of information on the price tag of the device either, though it seems that mobile phone users can learn more from Palm's specific web pages. UK and Ireland should go to company's website here, while those in Germany should head here. Users in Spain will be able to access more details here.
