Sony has kicked off a brand new initiative for its PlayStation 3 console, which will bring some of the most popular PlayStation Portable games to it, including Capcom's massively successful Monster Hunter Portable 3rd.

Despite the slow sales experienced by the PSP, the Sony portable console received some great games over the years.

Now, in order to further bulk up the title lineup for its PlayStation 3 console, Sony has just revealed that it will be kicking off a special PSP Remaster program.

This will see popular PSP games be remastered for the PlayStation 3, with things like high-definition visuals, compatibility with the DualShock 3 controller, and even possible support for stereoscopic 3D, set to be included in the revamped games.

What's more, depending on the actual titles, new content might also be added to the remastered ones for the PlayStation 3.

Sony also claims that you'll be able to use the same save game on both the PS3 and PSP devices, meaning you can start gaming on the home console and then transfer the save game to continue playing on the PSP while on the move, or vice versa.

The first game set to get the PSP remaster treatment is Capcom's Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD Ver., which even received a special trailer, that, unfortunately, is only available in Japanese.

Sony declined to say what other games will be joining the extremely popular Monster Hunter title in the PSP Remaster lineup, but PS3 gamers can expect other successful titles like God of War: Chains of Olympus, God of War: Ghost of Sparta, or even Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, to appear in the near future on the home console.

The Japanese company did confirm that plenty of other measures would be taken in order to further enhance the software lineup of its PlayStation 3, especially since the PSN outage took a heavy toll on the console's popularity.
