v.2 PLAY (publishing brand of Virgin Play) has made the official announcement of starting up work on its first video game publishing project: Torrente 3, The Protector. In a move to become a video game publisher as well as distributor, v.2 PLAY has paired with United Pictures and Santiago Segura to produce the game for the popular Torrente series.

"This is an important move for us in becoming a videogame publisher and we are pleased to have a Spanish license to base our first project on." said Francisco Encinas, General Manager of Virgin PLAY.

Torrente 3 the game follows the same story as in the movie, where Detective Torrente is clumsy, crude, has no sense of style and a knack of getting himself into situations seemingly impossible to get out of. Torrente is called upon to protect European Diplomat Giannina Ricci who is in Madrid to denounce certain irregularities of some of the countries businesses. Set in the streets of Madrid, the title is said to capture the look and feel of the city down to the last detail.

Within various levels and missions the player will personify Torrente, trying to become like him as much as possible - players will submerge themselves into the character gaining 'Torrentism' as rude, crude, tasteless, tacky and even perverted as Torrente himself.

But it's not that easy to become Torrente. In order to do so, the player not only has to complete the overall mission of protecting the Euro-Diplomat, but he also has to interact with the environment including going for a beer in Torrente?s favourite bar, visiting strip clubs, robbing cars and at the same time imposing the law, just to set an example for his son, Pepito.

Although you may have already pictured the game by now, would it hurt to also know that the game features Spanish irony, vulgarity and humor? Actually I'm sure that this was exactly what you wanted to hear.

The game hasn't been dated yet, but it's a certainty that it will launch on the PS2 and PC platforms. When more details on how the game's development is going to emerge, be sure you'll be the second to know about it, after us.
