Mobile phone carrier Orange UK announced officially that it plans on adding to its offering some new Android-based smartphones from South Korean handset vendor LG Electronics, including the Optimus 3D and Optimus Black.

According to the company, the two smartphones should be released on its airwaves sometime in the second quarter of the ongoing year.

The LG Optimus 3D, which went official today at the Mobiel World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, should become available on T-Mobile's network as well, as UK’s first fully enabled 3D handset.

“Bringing the 3D revolution to mobile users, the LG Optimus 3D is a ground-breaking new device featuring a stunning 4.3” 3D LCD screen. With a dual 5 mega-pixel camera for recording 3D video, consumers can create, view and share 3D multimedia with family and friends with ease,” Orange notes on its website.

The handset runs under Google's Android 2.2 Froyo operating system (upgradeable to 2.3 Gingerbread), includes 8GB of memory, enhanced multimedia capabilities, HDMI output, and a wide range of applications and services.

As for the LG Optimus Black, we should note that it was announced officially during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, being only 9.2mm thin, and packing a breakthrough technology with a brighter 4-inch NOVA display.

“Ideal for daily use, it reduces power consumption by 50 percent indoors compared to a conventional LCD screen,” the wireless carrier notes.

The smartphone also comes to the market with a 2 mega-pixel front facing camera, along with the Optimus UI 2.0, offering users the possibility to directly access messages, emails and missed calls from the locked screen with a single tap.

This is the first phone to support Wi-Fi Direct for "quick and high quality data transfer and sharing between mobile devices." It also offers a great web browsing experience, the carrier continued. No info on the price tag of these devices emerged for the time being.

Nicola Shenton, Head of Device Portfolio, Everything Everywhere said: "The LG Optimus 3D and LG Optimus Black show LG is really driving the market in terms of 3D and screen display technology. We’re pleased to be working with them to bring this latest innovation to Orange customers, pushing the boundaries of what a smartphone can deliver.”
