Fresh from the Nokia Beta Labs comes a new version of Nokia Image Exchange for S60, which brings along a wide range of bug fixes, as well as accelerometer support for 3.2 devices. However, the new flavor of the application also brings a new feature to the table, in the form of notifications, which inform users on activities related to their images and contacts.

Here is what a post on the Nokia Beta Lab Blog says about the new feature: “Notifications inform about new images from your friends present in the People menu as well as comments to your images and images that you have commented. There are also a few new settings to control the notifications. If you want to give us suggestion about the defaults, please let us know.”

A series of other changes have been also included in the new version of the application and they are related to the manner in which connections are made. According to the Nokia Beta Labs, the new flavor sports a new load balancing architecture which is aimed at resulting in an increased responsiveness for users.

“The Nokia Image Exchange team has been studying the possibilities of a touch UI version of the application. Unfortunately, the version released now doesn't yet support touch devices, but stay tuned,” the blog post also notes. Also, it seems that a version of the app is available for download from the Nokia Ovi Store, a more stable one, though without the above mentioned features.

As many of you might already know, the Nokia Image Exchange for S60 is only an experimental imaging service designed for Nokia's handsets. It has been developed so as to offer users the possibility to easily share images with their friends, yet one should note that it generates data traffic, which means that those willing to use it should make sure they have a data plan to avoid unwanted additional costs.
