Nokia Beta Labs announced recently the release of a client for their Nokia Image Exchange application that would work on Series 40-powered feature phones, extending the availability of the application from the S60 handsets on which it was initially released. The new app comes in a Lite form, and works mainly as a tool, not as a gallery app.

The new Nokia Image Exchange application for Series 40-powered feature phones has been designed to offer users the possibility to upload and share their photos with friends or family, and allow them to receive images that have been shared by others.

It seems that the software itself includes logins to various social networks and photo sharing communities, while also enabling users to create a new account directly from the mobile client, proving that the app has been developed so as to provide a seamless experience as soon as it has been set up. Moreover, the development team also says that the Nokia Image Exchange Lite doesn't work only as an image sharing tool; it can also be used to as backup software for one's photos.

“Nokia Image Exchange transfers the images to the web-service immediately as they are captured. This can cause significant amount of data traffic between the mobile phone and the service,” says the team, while also adding that users would need a flat-fee cellular data plan or a Wi-Fi connection for this.

Those who have been already using the Nokia Image Exchange on an S60 device have now the possibility to add more friends to their list, as they won't have to limit it only to those who have a similar device. The new Lite version also allows users of a wider range of devices to back up and share their images, and it also offers them the option to transfer them on a PC. More information on the application can be found on Nokia Image Exchange Beta.
