The company starts billing for pre-ordered units

According to the latest news on the web, we might see the Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia ready to launch the high-end Nokia N97 device into the wild much faster than initially expected. The rumored release date is said to be June 2, though the company announced officially that the device would hit the shelves only in July.

The early launch date is suggested by the fact that the company seems to have already started to cash out the accounts of those who ordered the handset in advance, so the release date might not be that far in the future after all. At the same time, it seems that one of the company's retail partners has been informed that the shipments of the device will start on June 2.

Moreover, one user from N97 Geeks, NOMNOMN97, states that he managed to talk with a Nokia representative, so as to learn whether the above mentioned charges were legit or not, and the rep seems to have stated the following: “This is the sign that they're getting ready to ship your order and that this time, the charges will stick to your account.”

One more thing that should be noted here is that Nokia already debited the customers’ accounts at one moment with the full pre-order amount in order to check for fund availability, and refunded the entire amount within 1-2 business days, announcing users that it would charge them as soon as the Nokia N97 would be ready for shipment.

In case the company is indeed cashing customers for the pre-ordered units, this would mean that the handset is actually ready to face the world, so the rumored June 2 release date might prove to be true in the end. Hopefully the billing of the accounts does not have another explanation, so stay tuned to learn whether or not the phone is actually coming so soon.
