To retail for $600

Finnish mobile pone maker Nokia is reported to have provided retailers in the United States with a possible release date for its high-end Nokia N97 mobile phone. According to the latest news on the Web, the company notified one of its major North American distributors that the device was expected to be shipped on June 2.

As many of you might already know, US mobile phone users can already pre-order the S60-based touchscreen device from the Nokia USA website, and the same applies to users in some other countries, while the company announced that the handset would become available for purchase, at least in Europe, sometime in July.

Although the estimated shipping date of June 2, 2009 might not state clearly that the Nokia N97 NAM will also start selling that very day, there are great chances that this will actually happen. According to The Nokia Blog, the new smartphone could follow the same pattern the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic did when launched on the market.

In addition, the blog also says that the price tag of Nokia N97 might not be the suggested $699 that Nokia lists on its site, and that retailers could sell the device for around $600. On the other hand, it is hoped that the Nokia 5800 NAM availability pattern will not be followed all the way, given the fact that those who pre-ordered the phone had to wait for about a month after retailers like Amazon and Dell received it to get their ordered units.

For what it's worth, we also hope that the handset will come to the market as soon as June 2, and that enthusiasts will receive their Nokia N97 right on time, especially given the fact that there are a lot of goodies that the handset packs (though some might argue here that the processor it includes does not represent the most fortunate option). Stay tuned to learn whether the N97 NAM will start selling in June or it will come in July, just as Nokia promised.
