A new software update is available for the owners of a Nokia N86 8MP, namely firmware version 30.009. The new update can be downloaded and installed via the Nokia Software Update, weighing in at about 142MB, and is expected to soon become available over the air too in most regions. According to the news, the new software solution should include some welcome enhancements, though it seems that not all is working as it should.

The new firmware version 30.009 is being pushed to Nokia N86 8MP as a maintenance update, and some of the main features it comes around with include: - includes the latest Ovi Maps 3.3 (with free navigation) - includes the sharing of location via Facebook - Nokia Messaging improvements (version 2.1.0 in the ROM now) Although the Nokia N86 8MP sports User Data Preservation (UDP), one should strongly consider backing up all data on the handset before launching the update process, so as to make sure no important files are lost. Moreover, considering that the firmware on the phone is being updated from v21 to v30, users should also consider a hard reset of the phone after the installation is completed, followed by a restoration of all files from the backup.

The installation of a new software update usually results in increased performance, and the guys over at All About Symbian say that the new software solution works like a charm. The Ovi Maps 3.3 are confirmed in firmware version 30.009, as well as the improvements added to Nokia Messaging. However, they also note that “display auto-rotation seems to be broken for the main S60 interface,” which actually means that one won't be able to turn it on.

As stated above, the Nokia N86 8MP should soon receive the new software update in most regions, though it's a common fact that it won't appear as available for download to all users in all markets.
