Nokia Image Exchange, the experimental solution released for users of a Nokia handset and aimed at making the browsing and sharing of images a fun and easy activity, has just received a new maintenance update. According to the development team, the image gallery has seen a series of fixes for bugs and issues it was released with, and the enhancements affect both the server side and the mobile clients.

Among the fixes included in the update, we can count: - Zooming issues with N95 are now fixed. - Blank images that were caused by deleting images outside Nokia Image Exchange are now cleaned up periodically. This is not immediate, however. - Image uploading is more reliable. - Mismatches of the sharing state between the web and mobile clients are removed. - The server speed is improved.

According to Nokia Beta Labs, users should be able to enjoy the solution on a wide range of Nokia devices, including all Nokia S40 phones and some S60 touch and non-touch handsets. S60 devices supported by the application include touch-enabled N97, N97 Mini, 5530, 5800 XpressMusic and X6, as well as non-touch devices like N95 (all versions), N85, N82, N81 (all models), E71, N76, N78 and Nokia 5320 XpressMusic.

Here's how the solution is described on Nokia Beta Labs' website: “It aims to provide a seamless integration of a mobile image gallery application and a corresponding web-service. Image Exchange explores user experience when the mobile phone is enabled with an always-on data connection and utilizes existing contact information as a basis for social networking. A few notable highlights include: automatic account creation, automatic back up and synchronization of image data, instant sharing, notifications about new images from contacts and a web interface for uploading and downloading images.”

One thing that should be noted is that Nokia Image Exchange generates data traffic between the handset and the service, which could translate into additional charges, depending on data plan. The development team also notes that the service has been tested with browsers like Firefox, Safari and Internet Explorer 7, and that it should work on Google Chrome and Opera 9 too.
