At the end of last year, British singer Lily Allen, undeniably one of the most successful artists in the country, announced that she’d be taking a break from the industry come this spring. Though she’s said that before, it would seem she truly means business this time, confirming to Absolute Radio (as cited by the Daily Mail) that she’ll not be releasing any new material for another 5 years.

Which is precisely the amount of time she estimates she needs to start a family and become a hands-on mom. In other words, Lily Allen has decided to put her career on second place and focus on her personal life by starting a family with her boyfriend. Because she wouldn’t want to be like other celebrity mothers, who give birth and are back to work within months after it, she’d not be recording anything new throughout her time off.

“It’s not the first time the Brit-Award winning singer has threatened to quit the music industry but now she wants to become pregnant before the end of this year. The 25-year-old, who is in a relationship with painter and decorator Sam Cooper, gushed: ‘I’d like to have a child within a year. It’ll be a minimum of four or five years before I make a record again.’ Despite being one of Britain’s most successful female artists, selling more than 2.4 million copies of her first album, Allen says the idea of settling down and having children is more of a priority,” the Mail writes, citing Lily.

“She’s only been dating her 44-year-old boyfriend for nine months but they are set to start trying for a baby right away. Allen told Absolute Radio: ‘I’d want to be really hands-on for the first two or three years of having a little one. I don’t want to leave them.’ After suffering from a miscarriage three years ago with ex boyfriend Ed Simons, Allen has made it well known that settling down and raising a family away from the media spotlight is her goal. But whether she will actually quit music is another story, as the Fear singer has talked of hanging up her microphone for years,” the same tab further says.

Also in December last year, Lily further said she’d come to the conclusion she was letting technology rule and ruin her life and was therefore bent on learning how to communicate (for real this time) with people again. Consequently, she banned Twitter, MySpace and Facebook from her life: in February, she was back on Twitter, saying she needed to lose weight. This 5-year break from recording music could also fall into a very typical “boy who cried wolf” scenario.
