Nexus S, the second Google phone launched on the worldwide market, is now available for purchase in the UK. The handset, manufactured by Samsung and powered by the new Android 2.3 platform flavor, can be purchased in the country via Carphone Warehouse and Best buy.

The mobile phone was already made available for purchase in the United States, starting with December 16th, exclusively on Best Buy, and can be purchased not in the UK as well, where Carphone Warehouse has exclusivity on it.

The Android 2.3 Gingerbread-based smartphone is available for purchase on the UK market for free on monthly plans that start at £30 per month, but can be purchased free of contract as well.

Those who would choose to acquire the Nexus S from Carphone Warehouse without a contract agreement would have to pay £429.99 for it.

Interestingly enough, the retailer's website shows a much higher price tag for Nexus S if purchased on a Pay As You Go basis, namely £549.95, the same price tag initially listed for the contract free devices (the cost was slashed only recently).

The new mobile phone is set to mark a new step in the evolution of mobile phones, as it comes with a brand new functionality for smartphones, namely Near Field Communication (NFC).

Some of the main features of the new mobile phone include: Android 2.3, also known as Gingerbread. Your phone is faster, smoother, smarter, with a new look and feel.

Nexus S gets you access to Google apps, and gives you access to over 100,000 apps at Android Market.

The handset includes a fast 1GHz Hummingbird application processor, with a dedicated graphics processor unit (GPU), both of which should deliver a great experience to users.

Nexus S by Samsung is available for purchase with contract agreements with four major wireless carriers in the UK, namely O2, Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone.

Update: It appears that the release date was pushed back to December 22nd. Read more about the official announcement here.
