Microsoft doesn't want to get users excited about new capabilities

Redmond-based software giant Microsoft is working on new flavors of Windows Phone 8, and it has already been said to plan on releasing at least two upgrades for its users before the end of this year, yet no specific details on what will be included in them has been provided as of now.

In fact, it appears that Microsoft is keen on not letting details on these platform releases slip out there, so as to make sure that users continue to purchase existing devices before knowing what exactly they will receive in the future.

”We are taking a different approach on the announcements this year,” Greg Sullivan, senior product manager of Windows Phone, told Pocket-lint.

The company won’t offer a glimpse at the upcoming features several months before the OS is ready for launch, but will deliver all the necessary info on the new platform upgrades when it is ready to ship them, it seems.

However, Microsoft is working closely with its hardware partners for the launch of new devices running under Windows Phone 8, and also for the release of handsets that will sport upcoming OS flavors right from the start.

“It is safe to assume we are working on low and high-end devices, but at the moment there are a lot of meetings going on with partners behind the scenes,” Sullivan reportedly said.

As mentioned in a previous article, he also confirmed that upcoming platform releases will be delivered to existing Windows Phone 8 devices, something that did not happen with Windows Phone 7.

With handset vendors striving to sell as many Windows Phone 8 devices as possible before the launch of new, better hardware, it does not come as a surprise that Microsoft doesn’t want for users to play a waiting game involving upcoming smartphones that would pack new OS versions.

One thing that is certain, however, is that Microsoft is in full swing with preparing not only new features for the Windows Phone enthusiasts, but also getting new phones ready for launch, so as to better position the ecosystem against rival OSes out there.

Even so, we’ll still have a while to wait before specifics on this are made official, and we can only hope that the wait will be worthwhile (though rumored handsets such as Nokia EOS suggest it will).
