Following an announcement earlier this year that the fourth film in the “Resident Evil” franchise, also known as “Afterlife” or simply RE4, would be released in 3D, fans should be happy to know that new stills from the pic have been made available online. They show lead actress Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter and “Prison Break” hottie Wentworth Miller, as FilmShaft can confirm.

Fans of the franchise were clearly psyched when the producers confirmed that the fourth installment would be released in 3D after being shot with state-of-the-art technology, the same that was also used in James Cameron’s all-record breaking “Avatar.” A change that the 3D treatment has already operated, as we also noted at the time, was that the zombies were fewer in numbers but more dangerous, while the entire film shifted focus from atmosphere to movement and action.

The latest stills from the flick can’t but contribute to build up even more hype. “Paul W. Anderson’s films are more miss than hit, but he’s back for a franchise he kicked off more than a few years ago now. Resident Evil: Afterlife will be released in September… in 3D! Milla Jovovich comes back for more zombies, mutants and gore. Ugo.com got their hands on two brand new stills from the movie… so check ‘em out!” the aforementioned movie-oriented e-zine says of the new stills, with obvious excitement.

The official synopsis of RE4, for those who are new / unfamiliar with the franchise reads something like this, also courtesy of the same e-zine: “Actress Milla Jovovich returns as the zombie-fighting heroine Alice. Ali Larter reprises her role as Claire Redfield from ‘Resident Evil: Extinction.’ Spencer Locke, who played K-Mart in ‘Extinction,’ is also set to return. New to the film franchise is leading man Wentworth Miller, who has signed on as Chris Redfield – Claire’s brother and a popular character from the game series. Shawn Roberts will take over the role of Alice’s nemesis Wesker. Boris Kodjoe and Kim Coates have also been cast.”

All in all, the premise for “Resident Evil: Afterlife” to become a hit is set. Fans will most likely give their seal of approval, while the higher ticket price (for 3D) ensures profit is made, it is being said. The film comes out in September this year, so make sure you keep an eye on this space for more details on it.
