The device features a dynamic keypad

Samsung U740 is yet another mobile phone to make it into the wild with leaked photos and details. The handset, also known as Alias2, is expected to come to Verizon Wireless' lineup in the not-too-distant future. Those who have already encountered the Alias will be able to recognize in a glimpse the same dual-hinge design that is meant to allow the device to be used either in portrait mode, like any other standard clamshell phone on the market, or in landscape mode, when the QWERTY keyboard becomes more than useful.

What the new version of Alias brings that is different is the keypad that it includes. Upon looking at the photos tied to this article, anyone would be able to notice that it actually seems to come with a typical 0-9 keypad that is surrounded by a series of blank keys, and there is no mistake in that, at least this is what Phone Arena says.

What’s so special about the new Samsung U740 Alias2 is a dynamic keypad that comes with the ability to display 0-9, a d-pad, etc, when the handset is opened in portrait mode, and which turns into a full QWERTY keyboard when the device is opened in landscape mode. The concept sounds interesting enough, only that it appears to be a little less attractive than the Mozilla phone concept that surfaced to the web back in February.

For the time being, there are not too many details on how exactly the dynamic keyboard included in the Samsung Alias2 works, but it seems that it might actually be some sort of E-Ink technology, or at least a similar one. For now, this is the only info available, but, hopefully, Verizon will decide to come with the device at CTIA, and more details on it will surface then.
