Ubisoft revealed at the Spike Video Game Awards ceremony that it was working on a new Prince of Persia title, called The Forgotten Sands, set to arrive in the same time frame as the Sands of Time movie at some point in 2010.

The game should continue in the same universe The Two Thrones and Warrior Within took place and will tell the story of how the Prince visits the kingdom of his brother only to find that it is under siege and that he must use his time control ability to put things right.

The main set of powers players will use to complete the adventures of the Prince will not be those aimed at time manipulation but a new set that is focused on the power of nature.

Ubisoft has not explained exactly what nature will allow the protagonist to do, but we might be in for environmental attacks, as well as some capabilities to actually reshape the sand, which makes up most of the environment the Prince moves through. The company is hinting that time and nature powers will be able to interact with one another, talking about how “the forces of nature itself will prove to be a devastating companion to his ability to rewind time.”

Although little of the plot is known at the moment, Ubisoft is also saying that the main character will “learn to bear the mantle of true leadership,” which suggests that the Prince is a bit slow on the uptake, considering that the previous titles in the franchise should have taught him everything about leadership and responsibility.

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands is set to be launched on the PlayStation 3 from Sony, the Xbox 360, the PC, the PSP, the Nintendo DS and the Wii. The movie is slated to arrive in May 2010 so, as long as no delays are in the way, the game should get to gamers on the same date.
