It was not a good unveiling

Game unveilings kept pouring in from this year's Video Game Awards, and one of them has a bit of a mind-bend touch to it. Disney already revealed that it would be making a movie adaptation of the Prince of Persia game franchise, and the film would be based on the Sands of Time episode. Also, Ubisoft teased us with a new installment to the popular game franchise not so long ago, and it promised that this title would revert to the original storyline followed since it picked it up. The movie and the game will both be released at pretty much the same time and, from what the trailer revealed for the latter, it looks like it is inspired by the former.

So, this new PoP will be known as the game that's inspired by a movie that's inspired by a game. While it may look complicated, if you cut a few words out you'll realize that this is a standard sequel, since it's a game inspired by another game. But, then again, it looks like it takes place before Warrior Within, so it would be better said that this is a prequel. If you're confused, then that's a good sign, since this entire thing looks like through-the-looking-glass planning.

As for the trailer itself, it's probably one of the most disappointing ones that were present at the Video Game Awards. The fact that, in some way or another, Disney is involved is very clear, since, even if it went back to the times of Warrior Within, the trailer is very child-friendly and deprived of violence. Instead of seeing a solider being impaled from the back by a scimitar, all we get is a surprised face and our imagination to fill in the rest, and we know that Ubisoft can be very graphic when it wants to.

As far as graphics go, the trailer disappoints greatly as well. Besides the rather rough visuals, the character movement is very shallow. The prince moves as if he's weightless or as if gravity doesn't hold sway over him. His movement and jumping animations, especially the very last one, seem to be a blatant copy of the Planet of the Apes movie, which, of course, isn't a compliment. The Prince's character design is also pretty off, in what seems as a Wolverine and Samanosuke Akechi cross, but now we're just nitpicking. In more welcomed news extracted from the trailer, it seems like the time-manipulation mechanic might return, but, then again, it looks like so did the Dahaka, of course, in a brighter, Disney-er version of the original.
