A new Epic Games project will be revealed to the public at the Game Developers Conference that will take place between the end of February and beginning of March, next year, at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco.

The announcement was made by Epic's lead designer, Cliff Bleszinski, who shared a few details about the new project, but kept things still shrouded in mystery.

According to the creator of Gears of War, the title started off as his own idea, but was then shifted to the lead designer of Prototype, Eric Holmes, who recently joined the Epic Games team.

No other details were revealed by Bleszinski and, judging by the recent projects of the company, from the likes of serious shooters like Gears of War 3 or Bulletstorm to the iPhone-exclusive Infinity Blade, we can't really say for sure what the company has in store for the upcoming conference.

"I believe game designers are the Stan Lees and Jack Kirbys of our day, and we're creating these universes that leave a huge impact on people," Bleszinski said.

"Gamers vote with their dollars and they often like established IP, but those IPs came from somewhere, right?"

"Call of Duty was crafted by the original Medal of Honor guys. Gears of War was crafted by the original Unreal Tournament guy. I look forward to creating what's next."

Those are some pretty big words from the lead designer of Epic Games, so expect a serious project from the company that brought gaming franchises like Unreal Tournament or Gears of War, not to mention innovative titles like Shadow Complex, Infinity Blade or the upcoming Bulletstorm.

Until then, Epic is getting ready to unleash the aforementioned Bulletstorm on February 22 on the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, which is currently being polished by the People Can Fly studio.
