Gears of War 3, the upcoming third-person shooter exclusive to the Xbox 360, is set to have special unlockable items or features if gamers already purchased and played other titles from its developer, Epic Games.

The announcement was made by Gears of War creator Cliff Bleszinski on his official Twitter account.

The developer revealed that those that purchased Gears of War 3 and had played titles like Shadow Complex, Unreal Tournament 3, the first two Gears of War or the upcoming Bulletstorm, were going to receive special unlockable items.

"Look for special unlocks in Gears 3 for those of you who have played other Epic games such as Shadow Complex, UT3, Gears, and Bulletstorm," Bleszinski unveiled on his Twitter account.

Epic Games already stated that the Premium version of the upcoming Bulletstorm would allow owners access into the future multiplayer beta of Gears of War 3.

Bulletstorm, a title developed by Polish studio People Can Fly under the guidance of Epic Games, is set to appear on February 22 in North America, and February 25 in Europe.

Gears of War 3, however, was set to appear in April next year, but was delayed by Epic until next autumn.

This extra development time will allow the company to set up the aforementioned multiplayer beta, as well as add features like dedicated servers or tweaked online modes.

If you've been looking for an excuse to purchase older Epic titles, then this is the perfect time to search them out and experience them.

In case you're not familiar with them, Shadow Complex is a downloadable 2D shooter, in the vein of classic arcade titles.

Unreal Tournament 3 is the next-gen iteration of the classic first-person shooter series that put Epic Games on the map, but, sadly, it wasn't received with open arms by fans.

If you're already interested in Gears of War 3, then it's probably better to at least play the single-player campaigns of the first and second games in the series.
