Akella just started the Disciples III promoting spree and, boy, we're happy about that! With a release date set for the third quarter of 2008, the long awaited new iteration of Disciples is proving to all the fans that this will be the game we're all waiting for.

With the newly released screenshots, we get the chance to see one of the new monsters, the Giant Black Spider who actually looks like a small bug compared to the huge Black Dragon, also revealed. We also have a battle screenshot, which seems to suggest a huge change in the Disciples history: the troops are no longer stationary! If this assumption is right, it probably is just a feature for your eyes to enjoy and nothing more. The battlefield is still very small and it doesn't look like many movement paths would be available, anyway. Still, it's a change.

The bad thing is that, even though Disciples III looks way better than any other game in the series, the graphics could still look better. Way better, if you were to ask me. But we all know that turning a game from full 2D into full 3D might look strange anyway (I can't help but compare it, again, with Heroes of Might and Magic 5 - it seems we have the same situation).

In Disciples III you will be able to play as one of the three present races: the Empire, the Legions of the Damned and the Elven Alliance, and fight for your deity to regain its status as the ruler of the world. Also, a new upgrade system is introduced and now your leaders will receive attribute points, as well as new stats or abilities. All in all, it seems like the game we've all waited for is finally coming, so get ready to it. Also, get ready for new details about Disciples III, as we'll keep you updated. Until then, check out the newly released screens:
