Leading provider of global navigation solutions NAVIGON announced today the launch of its on-board navigation application, MobileNavigator, for handsets running under Google's Android operating system in North America. According to the company, the solution is expected to become available in spring this year, and will deliver premium navigation features to Android users, the same as it does to the owners of an Apple iPhone. At the same time, the company revealed the availability of a North American version of its solution for owners of a Windows Mobile-based device.

The feature list of NAVIGON's MobileNavigator solution includes: - Reality View Pro displays photo-realistic 3D views with actual road signs and lane guidance for virtually every highway interchange and exit drivers will encounter. - Lane Assistant Pro helps drivers prepare to make an upcoming exit or turn by providing a lane map complete with arrows and actual road geometry. - Text-to-speech announces street names in addition to turn-by-turn directions. Instead of only stating “turn right”, the app informs the user to “turn right on to ‘Main Street’, enabling the driver to further concentrate on the road ahead and not become distracted looking for street signs. - Speed Assistant with adjustable audio-visual warning. - Day & Night Mode for map display. - Direct Access allows navigation to contacts saved in the phone's address book. - Route Planning - Branded POIs and POIs along the route. - 2D and 3D map view. - Automatic switch between portrait and landscape format. - Intelligent address entry. - Real signpost display.

The MobileNavigator solution makes use of the GPS receiver on the handset and of pre-loaded maps to deliver a full function navigation solution to users even in areas where they cannot enjoy network connectivity. The new solutions the company announced for Android and Windows Mobile-based devices come with NAVIGON's specific features, including Reality View Pro, Lane Assistant Pro, Speed Assistant and Day & Night Mode. Additionally, the solution sports the company's sophisticated and elegant map views that include branded POIs.

The new MobileNavigator for Windows phones is available for $89.00 and includes maps of North America (US, Canada, Hawaii and Puerto Rico) from NAVTEQ. Promotionally, users can get the solution for only $69.00 until February 14, 2010. The Android version will arrive later during the ongoing year, featuring the same maps, but no pricing details were unveiled for the time being. The company will demonstrate the MobileNavigator solution at CES 2010 in Las Vegas this week.
