Recently, mobile phone maker Motorola has updated the official Android upgrade paths for some of its mobile phones, launched on the market with Google's OS on board, and did not have only good news for its users, such as the delay of an Android 2.1 OS upgrade for the CLIQ XT handset in the United States.

When it comes to this specific OS upgrade, Motorola says that additional testing is required, and that the release was pushed back to an yet unknown date: “Upgrade to Android 2.1 - additional testing in process; more details when available.”

However, the update would come only to devices purchased via T-Mobile, or with a contract agreement with this carrier. CLIQ XT phones that arrived in the US via Wal-Mart “will remain on Android 1.5,” the company notes.

Although the handset vendor launched this device with a promise to upgrade it to a newer Andorid OS version as soon as possible, the update was already delayed a few times before, and now is being pushed even further in the future.

While the high-end devices from Motorola had their share of updates, the lower-end smartphones were left behind, and some of them would even remain at the same state as they are now.

The company's Android upgrade news page shows that the Motorola DEVOUR A555 won't taste a new OS upgrade either, and that the same applies to some of the handsets available in other markets around the world.

BACKFLIP, DEXT and QUENCH are among those handsets that won't enjoy a software update from Motorola. However, other phones are planned to receive software updates soon, either during the first or in the second quarter of the ongoing year.

While there is little chance that Motorola would change its mind when it comes to BACKFLIP, DEXT and QUENCH, we can always hope that it would offer the long awaited software update for CLIQ XT as soon as possible, especially now that it is getting ready to release a CLIQ 2 on the market.

We should also note that the handset vendor hasn't provided as of yet details on its plans for upgrading its devices to the new Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system flavor, though it might make the announcement in the near future.
