Motorola, Inc. announced on Monday two new mobile phones, the r765 and the r765IS, which have been designed to fit utility, petrochemical and industrial markets. The two enterprise-grade iDEN handsets are easy-to-use, rugged, mobile phones that work on private iDEN networks, offering call clarity and access to data applications to those in noisy and hazardous environments.

The mobile phone maker developed the new iDEN devices based on the idea that workers in refineries or petrochemical plants will meet noise levels that often reach extremes, so they will need handsets able to offer both clarity of the message and access to business-critical information so as to allow them to stay connected, informed and productive.

Motorola’s r765 and r765IS include features from two-way radios, cellular phones, and paging and packet data, offering users loud and clear communications, while their ergonomic design and accessible controls turn them into easy-to-use devices, the way a secure and seamless communications solution should always be.

“Building on an extensive history of innovation and industry firsts, Motorola continues to deliver voice and data solutions that maximize enterprise mobility,” said Greg Spillane, director, Motorola Enterprise Radio Networks. “Designed and certified to meet U.S, Military 810 Spec, Motorola’s rugged r765 and r765IS handsets are built for real-world job site punishment, ensuring that workers almost anywhere can leverage the rich voice and data capabilities of iDEN-based networks.“

The new Motorola r765 and r765IS solutions include support for rich iDEN services such as interconnect, talk group and private calls, messaging and data. In addition, they are also able to offer isolated site operation, status messaging, emergency talk group calls, and talk group scan, not to mention the possibility to download Java applications and the included Bluetooth wireless technology.

The r765 comes with a 1.0 watt iDEN output power, while the r765IS offers 0.6 watt iDEN output power. The devices are able to connect to 800MHz or 900MHz networks and offer additional flexibility with customizable menus. Motorola announced that the r765 was expected to become available for purchase in the second quarter of the ongoing year, while the r765IS should come to the market in Q3 2009.
