One of the future handsets that will land on the market with Google's Android operating system on board is said to be made by Motorola, and to sport the name of MOTOSPLIT. Some of you might have already encountered the name before, as the first rumors on it emerged about a week or so ago, yet now you can also have a look at what is said to be a design image with the device, and you can also learn a few details on the upcoming mobile phone.

The photo available with the Motorola MOTOSPLIT has made its way to the web via Android Community, and one can see a device that sports both a touchscreen display and a sliding QWERTY keyboard. The most interesting tidbit is that the keyboard is a two-way sliding, split one, and that it is possible for the symbols on the keys to be changed.

“The keyboard keys are inset and probably have no tactile feedback, however, they should be quite easy to use. It looks like the cutouts are pretty finger-friendly, as they contour to the shape of a standard finger. Under those cutouts is a low-resolution monochrome touch screen, one for each side of the keyboard. This is where the finger presses. The contact area is small, but the plastic grid that surrounds it contours to the fingers. The label and function of each key can be changed to suit certain layouts and applications,” an anonymous source told Android Community about the phone.

At the same time, the source also noted that the keyboard has multiple orientations, and that it “can be pulled from side to side for typing on a surface.” When using the phone in this manner, its owners will also be able to benefit from the inclusion of a small kickstand aimed at angling the device for better typing. Moreover, one can also pull the keyboard to the left, so that one can enjoy a standard landscape layout, not to mention that a dial-pad layout is also said to be included in the possibilities.

“The specifications are slightly different than previously posted. The MOTOSPLIT uses the same processor as the BACKFLIP. Every other spec is almost the same as the BACKFLIP,” the news site also mentions. It seems that we should expect for the upcoming Motorola Android phone to arrive on the United States Market sometime in the third quarter of the ongoing year, when it is launched via AT&T. For the time being, nothing is confirmed, but we can only hope that the rumor will pan out.
